2/7/1991 – Twenty-five years ago this year – a lifetime ago, but the start of my life as a survivor of gun violence. A man entered my workplace in an attempted robbery and instead shot me and two of my co-workers. In and out within about 30 seconds or so, and three lives individually changed forever, along with the lives of those who know, love, and support us. Every survivor lives with the physical and emotional scars of that day which we will individually, and as a community, never forget. Not a day goes by that I don’t recall the events of that day, and imagine how things might be different if it never happened, and imagine how we can prevent this from happening to others.
